End of the World- The Day After

Well that was awkward. I am thankful to share with all of you that we are all still here. Just wanted to make sure you had gotten the word.
These days are filled with doomsday zealots and to be honest, it has always been that way. Over the last 24 hours I've read a number of stories with references to dozens of assured "last day on earth" prophesies. They've gone on for a long, long time. These days of course with the internet, social media, our 24/7 news cycle on tv, even the most outrageous of these people find their 15 minutes. What interests me is the fact some of our religions (or more specifically, religious leaders) espouse the afterlife to the point of us missing out on what it is we are here to do, to be, to experience.
I have to believe that if our human experience is meant to mean something, then we must "live" it in the here and now and not spend so much time planning for the afterlife to miss out on all the amazing things life has in store for us.
For those of you who believe in the afterlife, many of the world's religions promote an eternity of being somewhere else. My point is simple, if we are meant for this "eternity" somewhere, would a creator magnificent enough to allow us to live forever really start our lives on this earth in what would be a fraction of a fraction of a nano-second in the history of time as human beings only for us not to get anything out of it? I think that is pretty silly.
This planet, this world of ours, and the time we are living in right now is amazing. Never has knowledge, wealth or opportunity like this ever been seen on the face of the earth. No generation has ever been so empowered with all the tools for success the way we are today. Yet some of us miss out on so much of it.
I think if we are truly supposed to "get" what we came here to get, shouldn't we be making the most of this thing called life?
Even for my Darwinian-minded friends, generations have adapted by making the best use of their abilities and circumstances for us to be right here right now. If nothing else, shouldn't we do the same for those generations which will follow?
Tomorrow is the first Monday which wasn't "supposed" to happen according to those who believed in the latest "End-Of-The-World" prediction. Yet you are expected to be at work on time in the a.m. How about you choose to make tomorrow a great day? The weather is more and more beautiful, spring is in full bloom, and the lazy days of summer are within our grasp.
This is the perfect time of the year to re-energize yourself, get yourself back into bikini-body shape, put in a few extra hours to make that work presentation just a little better for the boss, spend a little more quality time with friends and family, and yes, for those of you who pray, to do so with new vigor.
I for one will follow the sage mantra of country singer and philosopher Kenny Chesney when he says "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven, But Nobody Wants To Go Now".
Have a great week. Remember I believe in you, you just have to believe in yourself.
