What We Can Learn From Super Bowl XVLII

One way or another, Superbowl 47 will be decided today. The one thing we know for sure is the only people who will be "happy" by the night's end will be those who support the winning team. Everyone else will think it was horrible, will find fault with players, coaches, the officiating staff, all of it. Chances are few fans of the opposing team will just say "well, they were better than our team today and they deserved to win."
It's human nature to find fault and sometimes it is human nature to miss some of the most important parts of something which is right in front of us.
To me, the Super Bowl much like other world-class championship games, is itself a great venue to find inspiration regardless of which teams are playing or which team wins. Think about the mathematical probabilities that a regular kid maybe born into poverty, overcomes seemingly insurmountable obstacles very few others can, makes it to the NFL, and then ends up on one of the two teams which stand atop the rest on the greatest stage on Earth. The owners of the teams are all success stories in their own right and while some may have inherited their fortunes, a significant number of them started as regular kids, selling newspapers or working in factories. They overcame their obstacles and became wealthy enough to purchase an NFL team. Even the cheerleaders (ladies, don't go hatin' and hear me out). Yeah, you sorta have to win the genetic lottery to look like one of them. That doesn't mean their success should be minimized. There are a lot of beautiful women in the world. But very few walked into a professional NFL team's stadium on audition day with a burning desire to serve in that capacity, and even fewer make the cut to wear their team's uniform.
If I can take anything from today's game outside of its final score it is "laser focus perseverance and continuous action" are the simple secret of success. They cannot guarantee success. After all there are hundreds of players who persevered and took appropriate action who never made it to the NFL. But, EVERY player who made it to the NFL had perseverance and took continuous action towards their goal. What I'm saying is nothing in life is guaranteed, but we know what it takes to have a shot at greatness, at reaching goals. Whether the Ravens or 49ers win today, neither will have much effect on the food you put on your dinner table. It is, after all a game. But if you can glean anything of use today even more than a winning score, it should be that the road to your dreams must be fueled by perseverance and driven by continuous action.
Friend, as always I believe in you, you just have to believe in yourself.
